Thirty-year-old Celeste Hamilton’s life is at a crossroads she has just left a disastrous marriage, and her estranged mother has recently died, leaving the family’s rose business in jeopardy. Reluctantly, Celeste returns to the family home, a moated manor house in Suffolk, to help her two younger sisters sort out the estate and revive the business.

Having endured the fallout from her mother’s Narcissistic Personality Disorder when she was younger, Celeste is filled with self-doubt and crippling insecurities. But she must find the strength and courage to take charge and make some tough decisions to keep the old house from falling down around them.

The Rose Girls is an uplifting, tender and romantic story of courage, perseverance and the healing power of family.

The Rose Girls eBook Victoria Connelly

It was just time for a light read, and The Rose Girls was the perfect choice.
The three Hamilton sisters were named for beautiful roses because roses are the family business. The family estate grounds are well kept, but the big old house has been neglected. After their mother died, the three sisters have been left with it all and a mountain of debt. Perhaps the worst thing that the sisters have been burdened with are painful memories of their unpredictable, often cruel mother. Connelly manages to resolve the problems skillfully while effectively developing the sister's characters. It's a bit predictable but an enjoyable story.

The Rose Girls eBook Victoria Connelly Reviews

The mother in this story was horrible - not a spoiler, you start getting a hint right away. She left three very wonderful daughters and I'm not telling you any more!

I have a sister who, well, has malignant narcissistic personality disorder. She is horribly cruel and manipulative, most often threatening someone loved to get people to make her life easy. I am fortunate in that she is banned permanently from my home state for embezzlement, bigamy and fraud; I'd not move from here because she'd find me.... and want money. She would threaten to destroy me and then take money - and do it anyway. This mother is hard to swallow but the horror of her absolutely fleshes out the personalities of her three daughters. Just lovely.

The descriptions of the manor and the roses alone are enough to make this book worth it. The characters are a delightful addition, giving it some fleshing out as well as charm. You will really connect with these girls, you will have had an experience and identify with at least one.
This is a lovely story about three sisters trying to save their manor home and rose business. I found the ups and downs of their relationship very real and believable. Although I am not a rose expert and know very little about them, I enjoy and appreciate them. The description of the roses and the countryside was wonderful. I could just imagine walking through the gardens and the wonderful heady smell of roses everywhere. I would recommend this book if you are looking for a light read.
Easily read with the flowing emotions and believable life situations, The Rose Girls is a delight to spend time with and like losing a dear friend's company when it ends. The discovery of a belated character's mental illness and emotional dysfunction helps the story to unravel from a tightly coiled emotional snake to a healthy platform of new relationships and in the end, contentment. Excellent story so very well written. Will buy more from this author; what a treasure.
This was not Lizzy and Darcy for a change. Victoria Connelly made each Rose Girl enchanting and exquisite .... Like flowers!
This is a lovely story of three sisters trying to save their moated manor house from crumbling down around them. Will they have to sell the beautiful rose paintings that their grandfather bought when the family rose business was going well? As they try to work this out they are also faced with smoothing out their relationships with each other and their entanglements with gentlemen.

This would make a wonderful series on Masterpiece Theatre.

I listened to it on Audible and would recommend it.
This novel is set during modern times with cars, mobile phones, texting, and internet. A touching bittersweet novel in England, a beautiful old English manor with a moat surrounding the home. There are beautiful roses throughout the grounds of every colour in the rainbow. The estate was in need of major repair the three Hamilton sisters inherited the old manor and the Rose Garden Business after their mother died.

The sisters were not close, still morning for their mother. Each sister Celeste, Effie and Gertie had build their own life with secrets they did not want to share. They did get together with a plan to save the estate and the beautiful Rose Garden Business.

This is a lovely novel describing the old manor and the Rose Garden in detail. The characters were so descriptive with feeling and emotions. The story was to repair the manor, the Rose Business and their relationship. A beautiful fast paced, easy to read, uplifting novel. I recommend this for all ages.
The story is slow and dragging up to about three quarter of the book. Only picks up in the last one quarter. And when we finally get there it ends suddenly when things are just getting exciting.

The author spends too much time describing roses and arts and building up characters. The actual story is really in the last few chapters where we are then left wanting to know more of what happens next in the characters' lives. It's ironic to want the book not to end at that stage seeing I almost gave up halfway when it took too long before things started happening.

And there are a few things left unresolved. Such as, how and when did Simone get to steal the painting and the other items from the house? Didn't she only get to know and eventually married the girls' father after he left the family? And James' infidelity and betrayal were not properly addressed.
It was just time for a light read, and The Rose Girls was the perfect choice.
